Aperture – Port Melbourne

The built form is organised around a series of carefully positioned openings, framing light and outlook while maintaining privacy within a dense urban context. External expression is minimal, with material contrast and precise detailing used to articulate the façade.

Internally, the plan is structured as a linear sequence, drawing movement from entry through to the primary living domain. Natural light is introduced through horizontal and vertical apertures, creating variation in light quality throughout the day and reinforcing a strong visual rhythm.

Material continuity defines the interior palette. Timber flooring, stone surfaces and dark joinery are applied with restraint, allowing contrast and junction detailing to carry the architectural expression. The kitchen is resolved as a functional core, with integrated elements maintaining clarity and cohesion.

Living spaces extend outward through sliding openings to a compact landscaped courtyard, establishing a controlled transition between internal and external environments. Covered thresholds and screening elements provide layering and definition to these spaces.

Private areas are arranged to the upper level, where bedrooms and bathrooms maintain a consistent material language. Openings are positioned to maximise light while preserving a sense of enclosure appropriate to the urban setting.

The result is a considered and resolved residence, defined by precision, material consistency and a disciplined approach to light and space.
